You can apparently get extra space in ProDOS as well with a little
more hackery. However, as you note, that's not guaranteed to be safe
or stable.
Pretty much every Apple II compatible 5.25" drive supports 140K
reliably, and that's also what the OSs format them as. Therefore,
that's what I'll report their capacity as.
