appletalk quit working - solved

the gs to mac appletalk network problem i was having has
been solved.

thanks for the reply to check connections - i got as far
as checking the cable - the mac could print on an imagewriter
with it but i didn't try the other things because it was
simply too much changing/card shuffling/etc.

the problem turned out to rather unexpected. software on
both ends was fine. it was a hardware problem on the mac
end. (i'll learn to trust //gs software more :)
the power connector into the mac was not making contact
on the -12V line! (people who know serial ports will
say 'ah, of course.')  the related symptom was that the
sound on the mac had quit also. the amazing thing is
that the mac would otherwise work just fine, even without
-12 volts.
