Can't help on the first question, but the Comp.sys.apple2 FAQ (this
info has been in there for over a year, but got revised on Friday or
Saturday) notes in Question #35 that you must have a Superdrive
(1.44MB) controller card to use a 1.44MB drive, otherwise it'll look
like a regular 800K drive to the GS.
