Um...I was having a good laugh out of this thread until I ran into
this. Nathan, you really should lighten up. :)
No, this is not a flame. So he quoted the whole post, a simple
notice would have sufficed. No need to flame. Haven't you noticed
that people tend to build up a resistance against suggestions that
are presented in a mean-spirited manner? On the other hand, most
people respond well to suggestions presented kindly.
Certainly, a response to the person is justified, just not presented
in this manner.
I know you are going to think it is "touchy feely" (scaning some
old threads), but it is really just an issue of expediency. If you
were to want a child to learn, you don't hit him (or her) every
time he makes a mistake. You teach them kindly and give them a
reward when they succeed. If we REALLY want people to learn to use
their Apples, well a little politeness goes a long way whereas
acid may backfire.
You can't hit a toddler until he learns to walk, but you can
encourage him and correct him (in a kind fashion) and lo and behold,
he walks.
Just my $0.02.
(To the author of the article, cool stuff! I couldn't stop chuckling
We can use more humor in this grumpy group... :)
To Mr. Sanders, when you quote a reply, the editor brings in the
whole post. What you need to do is hilite and delete the non-relevant
parts. Thanks.)
