PMFJI, but:

It is true that non-appletalk imagewriter II's are serial -- however,
you can use either the modem or printer port on your Mac to print to it.
Both ports on the Mac are serial ports, but only the printer port
supports the appletalk networking protocol. Hence, you can use a regular
imagewriter II on either port, but the localtalk version only on the
printer port (well, you can probably cheat and hook up the localtalk
version using a regular imagewriter II printer cable to the modem port
using the regular imagewriter II driver, but that's another story...).
