At least the PC is still able to read the files unlike my //e.

This rather defeats the point of PC Exchange. It is easier to ftp a file
to the Mac HD and use AFE to write it to the 800k floppy rather than trying
to mess about with file types [which still involves at least two steps rather
than the one of ftping the file to floppy which would be the optimum].
