You have to get a straight-thru cable to connect the computer and the 
switchbox.  In a regular Imagewriter cable, 2 of the pins (I think) are 
switched from one end to the other.  So in effect, if you put 2 
Imagewriter cables together, they get switched twice, and the printer 
sits there looking at you with puppy eyes, not doing a darn thing.

Personally, I always wondered why the switchbox itself doesn't have the 
circuitry to switch the pins, so we wouldn't have to worry about another 
type of cable, but hey.  It happens.
