I think that's the frustrating way most text adventures are.  For 
example: I got Wizard and the Princess around '87.  Despite attempts by 
my whole family AND somebody in Old Forge for a year, we couldn't get 
hardly ANYWHERE.  You go north, and you get stuck.  Many years passed.  
I was EXTREMELY bored.  I found (very coincidentally) what had to be 
done, and made blinding progress.  Next week, I'm stuck again.  I can't 
get past a giant.  Now, The Wizard and the Princess resumes its dust 
collection activities...
