Sorry, i mistyped the decimal address that I was using, but only in my post.
Instead of 29250, I meant 49250, which is $C062, and therefore the
corresponding location for teh second joystik button. I was PEEKing at
locations 29249, 50, 52, and 53.

Thanks for reminding me that to read the analog data of the joystick port I
need to do more than just PEEK at it. I supose using PDL is what I used to
do, becuase I certainly don`t remember using timing routines and such via
BASIC.
