On the koala pad, "touching" does no good. You have to "press". The pad 
was sold with a plastic stylus. The end is tapered to a rounded point 
(diameter about 1/16 inch). High pressure on the pad is not needed, but 
the pressure must be firm and steady. Trying to use the pad by finger, 
rather than with a stylus will result in erratic readings.
