I've often thought that if I had a large number of old things sitting
around the house and I wanted to make a quick buck, one way of doing
it would be to start Usenet threads on the topic of how valuable these
items were. I would then follow up from other (apparently unrelated)
accounts, agreeing that the items are worth that much, and going as
far as making an offer at an unrealistically high price over Usenet.
Maybe I should give that a try...

A IIe? $15000? You've got to be kidding! If that's the case, I've
got enough of them in my living room to buy me a nice house. Next
thing you'll be telling me that my 14" removable disk drives and platters, 8"
floppies, and IMSAI 8080's are worth something...

The original Apple (aka "Apple I"), I've heard, is worth quite
a bit, though I've never seen an exact price mentioned for an
actual sale. I have seen people asking several thousand dollars for
one. No idea if a sale actually resulted at that price.
