This is probably caused by "other" type icons. You need to use an Icon
editor to hunt down and change file types of any icons with file type
"other" (hex code = 0000). I cleaned up my icons and have not seen the
confetti filled windows in months.

I was also going mention desktop files, but you already tried them. UM
doesn't check icon file attributes.
