Open it up and take a look at the HD mechanism itself. (Open the external
case and NOT the mechanism!) The HD should have the info on a sticker.
If it is difficult to decode, post it here and you'll get plenty of help!

Companies like LaCie simply slap a HD mechanism from one of the big HD
manufacturers into their own external case. The mechanism will be easy
to identify.
