The maximum capacity of the Ramworks III is 1 meg and with half the sockets
filled then one would assume that there is 512K installed. Appleworks 2.X
does not recognize the extra memory on its own. There is either a patch
program or pre-boot program from Applied Engineering (now defunct) that
will make AW2 see the extra memory. The program is on 1 of 2 disks. One
disk is named Super Desktop Expander and the other is the Appleworks
Expander. There are docs on the disk that explain what each program does.
Ramworks III, I believe can be expanded up to 6 meg with a piggyback board
(which I never heard of anyone having) and can also use another piggyback
board that allows for use of a RGB color monitor called the "RGB option"
Appleworks 3 and up does recognize the extra memory on its own as do most
of the later programs made for the IIe.
