RamKeeper ?'s still
Hiya, once again. I've only had one reply to my previous post
(of a few days ago) and in the meantime I've done a little research
slash playing to see if I can narrow this down any.
THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM:
I received a RamKeeper the other day, and for the life of me I
cannot get it to accept both of my memory cards together when I boot
from the hard drive. Yes, the two cards are acknowledged when I boot
from the 3.5" drive but that's not what I intend to do every day,
'specially since my bootup stuff is 1.3M plus r-sounds. :)
THE SYSTEM IN QUESTION:
Apple GS ROM1, RamKeeper, AE GSRAM ULTRA (4M) and Apple Exp.
(1M), RamFast in #7 with a 40M and a 20M [normally off], Sonic Blaster.
TROUBLESHOOTING SO YOU CAN SKIP TELLING ME TO DO THIS:
RamFast's DMA turned off per manual instructions.
Jumpers checked on Apple card, both jumped.
STUFF I'VE DONE AND THE RESULTS:
-- Regular powerup: 1/5 of the way through the thermometer it says I
need to install the AppleDisk 3.5" driver (it's there), there's a
problem with the drive volume (there isn't), and an error with the FSTs.
A return reboots the system and repeats all of the above.
-- Booting off 3.5": Works just fine though when working with the ROM
disk there are occasional errors and lockups, and the screen does not
get updated consistantly (windows are blank or garbled).
-- Booting from ROM disk when I've copied a boot 3.5" to it: 1/4 of
the way through the thermometer it says there's error $110A with file
Resource.mgr. Sometimes Return reboots, sometimes not.
-- Pulling the Sonic Blaster [since the SB disallows me from using
certain screen savers]: Nope, same results as regular powerup.
-- Removing 20M drive from chain so the RamFast comes up automatically
instead of waiting 45 seconds looking for the drive: Nope, same again.
CARDS AND PLACEMENT:
The diagrams in the manual have been followed as to placement of
the two cards, and the only allowed config is Ultra in the SlotMover and
Apple in the back. Alone: The Ultra works in the SlotMover, and the
Apple works in the SlotMover and in the back (thus the back does work!).
I can boot the HD with one card in -- I can't boot the HD with both in.
TESTIMONIAL:
The one person who emailed said he too has an Ultra and a 1M
Apple in his Keeper, but he doesn't have a RamFast in his mix (and again
I repeat, I have turned the DMA off). And as said I've been able to get
both cards to cooperate if I'm NOT booting from the HD.
Okay, if you're still here... Any suggestions, solutions, ideas,
anything? This is really getting on my nerves.
