In Windows/PC-ese a PIF is a Program Information File. Usually, PIF's
are created to tell Windows how to set up things (like graphics display,
I/O, etc.) in order to run a DOS program. For example, a file named
FIELDER.PIF might tell Windows how to set up for running FIELDER.EXE.
If your PIF is a genuine for-Windows file, then a guess is that some
net server interface placed it in your System/System.Setup folder in order
to facilitate interfacing with a Windows utility running on the server.
System/System.Setup may have been chosen since it is one folder in a Boot
partition's System folder which is guaranteed to be present.
