If you have an Aux slot card in place then the slot 3 ROM space is mapped to
the CD ROM on the motherboard. This means that the only cards that would work
normally in slot 3 are those without ROMs (eg Stellation Mill 6809 co-processor
or a Mockingboard sound card) or those that only need power (like a //gs sound
card plugged into the sound expansion connector [not that this would work in
a //e]) or even a 65c02 accelerator card might work.

Here in Australia the question does not even arise. Our slot 3 is in the
middle of the motherboard and lined up with slot 3 so both slots cannot be
used at the same time.

NB. I found that the Stellation Mill does not function properly in a //e.
OS/9 works fine in a ][+ but hangs while booting if the Mill is in a //e.
