Case 1: A newbie posts that AppleWorks is an is an usuitable
wordprocessor and asks where to get Wordperfect GS.
You flame this person and then go on and talk about
not Wordperfect GS, but Wordperfect for the IIe.

Case 2: A kid asks for info about the Apple VOC. You flame the
kid for posting in the wrong newsgroup and his sig, then
flame his web page. First: it is his web page and he didn't
ask for a comment. Second: he later changes his sig
and figures out the newsgroup hierarchy. So what do
you do? You try to give him a grammar lesson.

I've seen more, but those come to mind first.

No, I like an accurate group, but also a decent one. This is not
"touchy-feely," but common courtesy.

I am sorry, but flaming is bad no matter how you see it. If you slap
or spit on someone IRL, they will fight back. Similarly, flame wars
do not lead to people correcting their mistakes.

Case in point: Mr. Turley made a statement about his having AW.GS.MAKER,
a memory patch enabling AppleWriter to access all GS memory. It was
the wrong file, so I sent him email on this fact. Did he go balistic?
No, he accepted that he was wrong. Obviously, this ended better than
if I had flamed him publically calling him names.

Believe me, I do appreciate your work. In fact, those Twilight II
screensaver modules were awesome. I'm just trying to point out some
observations and to make this newsgroup a better place (courtesy
leads to better response from people who err, resulting in a more
accuracy group overall while flaming just leads to flame wars).
