Playing music CD's is an easier operation than reading files from,
say, Golden Orchard or accessing a DiscPassage CD under DiscQuest. But, it
does require that more stuff be in place.
Just in case you missed the earlier checklist and suggestions, to get
going, you need ...
>>
1- The RAMFast CD ROM driver file in Media.Control folder which is in
SYSTEM/DRIVERS
2- The MediaControl control panel file in SYSTEM/CDEVS
3- The Media.Control.DA desk accessory file in SYSTEM/DESK.ACCS.
4- The Slot in which RAMFast is located must be set to "Your Card"
5- Stereo headphones, speakers, or hi-fi cables need to be plugged into
the CD ROM drive. Most drives have a mini-stereo socket in the front. The
plug for your headphones, etc. must be a stereo plug.
Once the above items are checked, Shut Down your IIgs. Turn it OFF.
Turn OFF the CD ROM drive. Wait 10-20 seconds. Turn ON the CD ROM Drive.
Wait a few seconds and turn ON your IIgs.
Reboot the system. Click on Control Panels in the Apple Menu. Select
the Media Ctrl control panel. My system uses a RAMFast and a CD ROM drive
from Alltech, too. I have "1" for Media Channel, "RF.NEC" (the name of the
driver) for Media Device, and "GAME PORT" for Port. After entering your
settings, close the panel. This will save your setup in a file named
"Media.Setup" in the same Media.Control folder which contains your driver.
From the Apple Menu click on Media Controller to show the CD ROM
player. Click Channel 1. (When the correct channel is clicked, the name of
your CD ROM driver sould show in the player display.) Insert a CD. Click
Play and adjust the volume on the drive.

The above makes one important assumption: your CD-ROM drive is set to
a SCSI device number which does not conflict with some other SCSI device
(like a hard disk) and your SCSI interface recognizes the device at its
current number. I do not know if there are any numbers RAMFast especially
'likes' for CD-ROM.
My CD-ROM drive is a Creative Products x2 drive made by NEC. It is
set (via a click switch on the back) to Device #2. There is no other
device on the SCSI chain because my hard disk is a Focus Hard Card with
its own IDE interface.
So, check the device number setting of your CD-ROM drive. Probably,
you want it to be higher than the number used for your hard disk.
Do you know that RFSCSI2 is the correct RAMFast driver for accessing
music on your CD-ROM drive? Since you bought yours from Alltech, it may be
an NEC drive which needs RF.NEC. (This driver was supplied by Sequential
Systems on their DiscQuest diskette.) RFSCSI2 could be just right for
your drive; but, it may be a good idea to call up Tony Diaz at Alltech and
ask about "the right driver to play music" on your particular CD-ROM
drive.
