how to download with proterm

Hi. I'm recently inherited an apple //e enhanced. With some good
information I got from a newsgroup about ssII jumper settings I was
able to access a bbs. I'm using proterm 3.1, for which I have no docs,
and a hayes compt. ext modem. My problem is that I don't know how to
access the proterm functions like "r" for receiving a file when I'm
online. Offline there is a menu with all the functions listed and to
use them I simply press the letter of the function I want to use. You
can't download a file offline though. When I get online the menu
disappears and the letters don't do anything.

Another small problem is that I am only connecting at 2400 but my modem
is capable of 14.4kbps. In the setup there is no selection for a modem
of this speed so this may be the problem.
