   The internal self test is not complete-- it does not check all of
main ram, etc. Further, my GS has a mostly checkerboarded display
which appears for a fraction of a second at first powerup, independent
of whether my VOC (Video Overlay Card-- duplicated GS video hardware)
is driving the monitor or not. The screen is then cleared, and the
system boots fine.

   The memory for the screen display is usually _NOT_ verified by ram
checkers such as the one that came with my GS-Ram+ or the AWGS 1.1
MemoryTest.CL one-- it's on the motherboard, not the ramcard.  I don't
know of any programs that do that, though. I'd still recommend a
general system memory check anyhow-- there may be some flakiness in
the rest of the ram that's causing the problems.
