Sirius RAM GS & ROM quirks
Interesting situation. I have my beautiful Sirius RAM IIgs, and a bunch
of other cards in my system (RAMFast C, Sonic Blaster, Zip GSX, Parallel).
I recently changed the motherboard from a ROM 01 to a ROM 3.
I called up Alltech, because the Sirius's docs are a little vague. I asked
them what I needed to do to the Sirius to get it working with the Rom 3.
They claimed that all that needed to happen was moving the SIMM from
bank 1 to bank 5 (tried it. still only had 4 meg).
I had already done that, but here's the interesting part... when I switched
motherboards, anything I tried to launch from the finder would crash.
ANYTHING.
So, I switched the SIMM back into bank 1 from bank 5, and I'm typing away
merrily.
Just so you all know... the Sirius RAM is a nice card, but it's a little
quirky.
BTW: anyone know what the "configuration block" does? I'm convinced it does
something, but Alltech won't tell me. Anyone who bought a Rom 3 Sirius
RAM care to describe what their "Configuration Block" looks like? mine
looks like two wires, intact. I have a feeling that one or both are clipped
on a Rom 3 configuration, or perhaps on a higher RAM configuration?
