Input into Apple IIe
Hi guys it is me, your friendly neighborhood third grade teacher again.
I have yet another problem to solve. You guys have all been so helpful with
all the others so... here goes.
As some of you know I have been building an Apple II lab in my classroom at
school. I now have about 8 machines with 128k, floppy drives, some of them
have a mouse, etc. They are connected via switchboxes to two Imagewriter II
printers.
Now the fun part. Our school recently won a $31,000 technology grant. It is
going to be used for in classroom computers. Most people want a PowerMac
but I want to suggest to use my money for fixing up these Apples. I have
been able to duplicate essentially everything the can do with a modern day
Mac using Beaglewrite, Publish It, and 8/16 Paint.
However I also want to one up them before the decision for this money comes
down. I have read the documentation for Publish It and it says that the
program can accept Super Hi-res IIGS graphics and will print them with
various level of gray on a laserprinter. I am working on the laserprinter
part but I need to know, is there, or was there a way to get IIGS quality
photographic input into a IIe? Could I use a scanner, did they sell some
sort of video input thing that could snap photos off videotape or anything.
The quality on screen does not have to be that good. What is important is
that it keeps the higher number of colors associated with the GS and
allows them to go to Publish It.
Question number 2 is my workaround in the event there is no solution to
number 1. I was just given an Apple 800k 3 1/2 inch disk drive. It will go
into the regular disk drive controller slot but the computer won't
recognize it. Do I need a special card for the Apple II to use that drive.
I could then use my Mac at home to input the pictures, save them in Prodos
and IIGS format and use them on the IIe. by bringing them in via the 3 1/2
inch disk drive.
Thanks in advance everyone and be aware that not all educators have given
up on the II. I love this People's Computer. It is the VW of computers in
my opinion.
