Is it possible that this is an old modem? I have a Hayes internal modem,
1200 baud, that had a speaker on it so you could hear the dial tone,
dialing tunes, etc. If that were U-comm (double the "m"), i would most
certainly think so. Didn't apple and a couple other companies come out
with the first 300 baud modems around the time of the II+?
