You didn't mention if money was important, but MacLinkPlus
will convert the files _with_ formatting from Appleworks through
version 3.0 to just about any Mac Word Processor out there.

If they have PC Exchange and MS Word, and the MacLink Translators,
they can stick a Prodos disk with Appleworks files into their mac,
and open them directly with Word. You can't get more transparent 
than that!
