     5.1, but you'll need 256K and an enhanced IIe.  Somewhere it was 
reported that a drive > 140K was also a necessity.

     Yes, particularly in the treatment of textfiles for the WP.
Actually most of the really significant upgrades, as in added functions 
rather than streamlining of existing ones, are in the DB and SS...which
I'm not qualified to discuss (seldom use them).

     If memory serves, 3.0 finally allowed printing to disk without
adding returns at the ends of lines.  5.1 can load and save textfiles
as easily as it loads and saves AW files.
     5.1 also has a full set of file and disk utilities built in and the 
complete UltraMacros package.
