While the latest version of AppleWorks 5.x will work on an Apple IIe, you
must have at least 256k memory and a 3.5" drive or hard drive. If you have
a hard drive but no 3.5" drive, you can request the AppleWorks 5 on 5.25"
for install.
AppleWorks 4.x is the latest version than will work on a 128k Apple IIe with
5.25" drives, but you only get a 20k desktop.
AppleWorks 3.x gives you a 40k desktop on a IIe. It's the first version
that came with the spell check built in.
If I recall, version 2.x was the last that would work on an un-enhanced IIe.
You need the enhanced IIe for later versions.
Hope that helps. I couldn't live without AppleWorks (classic). I can fill
up my desktop with a bunch of files in my 4+ meg IIgs. I sure wish it could
be modified to allow more than 16k lines or records.
