     The internal Apple IIgs fan will move air around a bit inside the
box. It is not much good for moving cool air in and hot air out.

     Raising the the hot monitor away from the top vents will improve
convection air movement. This usually works okay for a system with no hot
cards. 

     The best approach is something like Kensington's System Saver IIgs
which pulls air into back and side vents and out the top.

    A WD-40 tube will work.

     This could involve several Crash- Remove Lid- Squirt- Reboot- Replace
Lid sequences. To speed up the process Dave should include the Little
Finger Test. When there's a crash, Dave sticks his little finger on each
IC on the TransWarp card. An IC that scorches the finger is a prime
candidate for a squirt of Super Cool. 

     Knowing which IC is getting hot enough to cause a malfunction could
be worth the bother. A new, cooler-running version of the IC may be
available.

     It may be possible to attach a heat sink to the IC. For an IC on a
Slot card, a heat sink smeared with heat-conducting grease can be held
against the IC using a long nylon wire tie. If the sink has fins, they
should be oriented along the direction of air flow-- vertically for pure
convection cooling; horizontally if forced flow comes through the rear
vents.

     At the least, Dave will know where cool air has to go.
