According to Apple's info sheet, the following restrictions apply in HCGS:

30,000 characters per text field
Number of cards in a stack limited by available disk storage
Maximum stack size: 512MB
Number of text fields per card: limited by available memory and disk space
Number of buttons and links per card: limited by available memory and 
disk space
Number of active variables: limited by available memory
