Copyrights, etc.
first of all, thanks to whomever posted the "Copyright FAQ" that was a
nice way to get some specific info. I have been aware for quite some
time, however, that just b/c you don't charge for something or claim you
wrote it, it does not violate the specific law. but i'm not concerned
with the specific law. if people in midevil London said that murdering
your brother to gain the throne was OK, b/c the specific law said it was
so, then this world would be a tad strange, dont' you think? as fas as
working GS users go, all logic tells me that copying a file or program is
not a terrible thing. i would have bought a newer computer a long time
ago if i could afford to, mostly b/c i use them quite often, and i'm
aware of the many advantages of having these machines. i wouldn't buy
most of the software i want for my gs, b/c i simply don't have much
money, and i won't be taking a potential sale away from someone, or
reducing the value of their product, if i get a copy of some program that
happens to be copyrighted. i have quite a lot of software in my
posession, and the majority of it was probably copyrighted and sold at
some time, and i don't think i paid for any large percentage of it,
beyond shipping costs or what came w/ the computer when i bought it. i
would like to get GS/TCP and gno, etc. but i can't pay 80 bucks for each
program, or whatever the cost is. to me that is ridiculous, but
apparently they had to spend a lot of money to create the product. i
don't know about that, but ok. i wouldn't have proterm3.1 if someone
wasn't kind enough to send me a copy. i would simply use the next best
thing. i suspect this is the case for many gs users...
