Z-Link requires an enhanced IIe, so it definitely won't work on a II+.

This is the first prompt presented by the standard ProDOS-8 "quit" code
- it is displayed when a ProDOS-8 application quits, unless an
alternative program selector has been installed.

In ProDOS-8 1.9, Apple added a simple program selector that allows you
to switch drives and select directory/application using the arrow
keys. This display is only available on an 80-column IIe or a later
machine. 40-column machines will still display the old awful prompt
method.

The quit code expects you to type in a ProDOS prefix (volume name with
directory names as required) and the pathname of the next application
to be launched.

In short, you will have to find simpler comms software, or get a IIe.
