HELP! Need to go from VAX to IIe

I have a IIe with a Y-modem capable program, and Kermit,
and am trying to get files (ie FTP) off a VAX system that
I connect to the Internet on. The VAX has Kermit-32, so I
tried using Apple Kermit, but files come through slightly
"jumbled". ShrinkIt gives me "bad CRC data".
My question is: is there some way to fix this Kermit problem,
or is there a program I could use on the Unix/Vax end to send
the files via X or Y-modem? My Unix account has access to
C, Fortran, and Lisp (??) Thanks in advance for any help.
