Defensive reaction? :-)

I certainly don't get misty eyed and excited about the IIgs these
days, but I used to.

Back when the IIgs came out, it was a great machine if you were used
to the older 8-bit Apple IIs. It had better colour graphics than any
reasonably priced Mac for several years, and the sound is still pretty
impressive.

It is hard to pin down any other particularly exciting features, but
my favourites were the variety of programming environments (8-bit,
16-bit text, 16-bit desktop) with the attendant learning curve for the
new environments, and the openness of the machine (fully documented
hardware locations and firmware, etc.)

Not exactly. The only time I've had a wavy screen (that I recall) is
if another computer is running in close proximity - the monitors
interfere with each other, causing shimmering (on a high resolution
monitor attached to a Mac in my case) or interference bars moving up
or down the screen.
