If there really aren't any ISPs in Montreal offering text-based access,
do you have a local Genie node? (If you don't know, I'll try to
remember to check tonight for you.) If so, you have a couple of
options. IMO, Genie is still the best Apple II support source, and
despite the recent price increase, I have kept my account for that
alone. Also, Genie's new owners have started up a full-service Internet
service, accessible through the same connections. They have a text-only
service with, if I remember correctly, unlimited hours for US$15 or $20.
You do not have to sign up for Genie to get the Internet package. I
have no idea how good their service is, but at least it's an option.
Even if there isn't a local Genie node, you could still get on through
Datapac, I imagine (that's what I have to use). That gets really
expensive, but if you keep your hours down by using off-line readers
whenever possible, at least you won't get cut off completely.
