new GS user needs help

I'm new at using the iigs and rather than posting questions on this newsgroup, 
I was wondering if their is any ftp or www sites that has apple ii/iigs 
basics, faqs, and some useful links to get started with. Also looking for some 
software to get started, wondering on which ftp sites this could be found: a 
good disk utility, word processor, and communications software. I will be 
downloading this onto an ibm and was wondering how to get it to my apple iigs. 
I was planning on sending via modem, but the only copy of proterm I had 
crashed (I think the prodos boot sector screwed up and was thinking if I had 
another copy of prodos, I could run proterm from it. Does anyone know if I can 
fix the disk, or where to get another copy of prodos?) So I thought if I had 
an apple ii emulator for ibm, I could do the transfer on the ibm. Or perhaps a 
null modem transfer (do I need special software for this? is it done through 
commincations software?)
	I may be up sh-t creek, looking for some paddles. Where do I go?
