I had my apple //e working 24/7 on its side for more than two years (I
made an external keyboard, so I could do this, BTW). EVERY slot had a
card. No card ever worked its way lose, and I did check them
periodically.
If this "tower" system idea of yours is for a high vibration or moving
platform (like maybe on a ship or something), I'd reconsider things,
but sitting on your desk will probably by OK.
