AE Datalink Modem and zmodem

I have an Apple2 GS and a AE Datalink 2400 baud modem, and a AE 20MB 
Vulcan Hd. I use Proterm 3.0 for modem software

The modem works great overall, but the problem I am having is that when I 
go to use zmodem to d/l files I get a pause (interuption) at 40K which 
then sends an abort to the host computer. When using X-modem I get the
same pause at every 40K but it continues. I can live with X-modem, but
I would love to be using zmodem.  

I am wondering if anybody  has had similar problems?
