I can check again, but I often swap 1.44 MB disks between my GS
(which has a floptical drive, precisely why I bought it in fact)
and my Macs. I usually format the disks on the GS, only because 
it is so much faster (the Mac requires you to initialize the
disk to erase it or change the file system, the GS allows you
to do a format or to simply wipe the file system and replace it
with another...and since the low level format on all 1.44 MB floppies
is the same, it's a heck of a lot easier to just erase). However,
I haven't noticed any trouble mounting disks formatted on the
Mac.
