David: AppleScanGS works with Apple's "SCSIScan.Driver", which is provided with System 6.0.1. There is an option to install it if y=
ou go into "Customize" in the Installer ("Device: SCSI Scanner", if I remember
right).

My reply: Thanks David! I tried it out with the SCSI high-speed card and it works great.

David: This driver requires an Apple SCSI card. If you have a RamFast, you are probably out of luck - Apple's driver certainly won'=
t work with
it, and the RamFast driver is not call compatible with it (assuming it
supports the scanner at all), so AppleScanGS will not work with a
RamFast.

My reply: Understood, I don't have nor intend to get the RamFast. The Apple high-speed SCSI card works just fine for me.
David: You also need the original Apple flatbed scanner. I doubt it will work with current or recent Apple scanners.

My reply: Actually I've given it to a couple of our 1WSW team programmers that made some modifications to allow it to save and scan =
with 'Line-Art' and 256 colors, using 150 DPI. I even used an old 3rd party FBS and got a fairly good set of color scans with it. T=
he program still needs a lot of work to make it recognize 256 color scans with the Line-Art mode, at 300 DPI.

I don't know what the legal aspects of making the modified version available for either private or public distribution, with an upda=
ted modification. I'm researching this now with Apple Computer. If I am allowed to make it available, it will be freeware.
