DuoDisk 5.25" Drive: questions

My first drive was a flaky Duodisk that kept wrecking directory files.   
I ended up swapping it for a working Disk II drive.

Does anyone know whether two Apple 5.25" drive mechanisms could be 
installed inside the Duodisk housing?  Seems like they could be 
daisy-chained at the rear....


Also, suppose that you have a bad DuoDisk.  The hardware bug is in the 
analog board, correct?  Could the lower half (mechanical) portion of the 
two drives be used successfully in a platinum 5.25" drive (single unit) 
housing????  If not, then why not????
