I have been using the HP Deskjet plus as black & white printer that
will use the GSOS drivers.  But HP stopped the serial ports on the
500 series.  Now they only have parallel.  I am currently using an
HP OfficeJet for my printing.  This is also parallel and the GSOS
drivers give me a diagnostic saying my printer port is not turned
on.  I forgot to say the OfficeJet is essentially an HP 500 as far
as the printing goes.

As a text printer, the HP 500 series do great.   I haven't tried any
8 bit graphics programs yet.  I do have a sign making program that
works.
