Apple //e uploading

I am a new modem user and I am having trouble uploading Basic or binary
files (Prodos) to my 'homefiles'. I understand this must be done
before the files may be transferred to another Apple // user via E-mail
attachment.

First the details: Apple //e with 1 meg and using Proterm 3.1 software.
I can upload and download ASCII text files, send and receive E-Mail, and
even write and answer questions on this newsgroup. I have tried to send
Applesoft Prodos basic files and Prodos binary files to my 'homefiles' with
X-modem, Y-modem, Z-modem, and Kermit. The Proterm manual suggests I
use X-modem or Y-modem with binary II encoding. I have tried this also - no luck! The transfer just 'hangs'.

If any of you Apple //e gurus out there know of a solution, I would
appreciate knowing the key. Thanks.
