i don't remember the details right now, and i have no idea
if this relates to a laser, but older apple 3.5 drives had
a problem with a board inside them that would prevent daisy
chaining. i had this problem with my gs years ago. at the
time, there was still available a free upgrade from your
friendly local apple dealer. i can find more specifics if
needed.
