If you feel comfortable taking it apart the Beagle Brothers
(blessed be Their name!) suggest  turning the pressure pad's crew about 
a quarter turn or fluffing the pad with a straight pin or needle.  The 
wrer writing about the old external Disk II drives but I think it would 
be worth a look-see.
