Battery replacement idea

Having posted the previous question about updating the battery in a IIGS, 
I had this thought (as yet untried - I need to find an appropriate source 
first)...

Does anyone remember the old electronics experiments kits for children - 
how they used little springs to allow wires to be used again and again 
for all different kinds of experiments - what about using those to 
connect the battery wire to the old battery wire (once the old battery 
has been cut away) - cheap, reusable, and no solder involved (and no 
writing off to the US for me with all its associated hassle :-)

I think it would work - has anyone any thoughts overwise?
