Did you try the PCTSWAP utility. When you initially do the PCTINSTALL.
It also installs drivers for the possible 5.25" & 3.5" drives. The
PCTSWAP lets you tell the drivers(?) you don't want those.

It lets you bypass the slow 3.5" PCT drives when using the Finder
also.
