Re: 3.5" drives & daisy-chaining DuoDisks

Mr Empson,

Sounds like you have a lot of experience with disk drives!
I have a couple of Duodisk/controller card questions I'm hoping
you can shed some light on for me. I recently purchased a couple
of IIe's and three 5.25 disk drives, one of which was a Duodisk
Model# A9M0108. The problem is, I also got a box full of disk
controller cards, only some which I have been able to match up
with the right drives. The cards are all Apple cards, and all of
them are marked with what type of drive they support, ie 5.25 or
3.5., except one "mystery card" which resembles a 5.25 card in
every apparent way, except that the only writing on the card
states that it is a "IO Controller 655-0101-B". I don't dare
try this card on a 5.25 drive for fear that it will fry the card
and possibly damage the drive attached to it. I am at a loss as
to what I should look for on a Duodisk 5.25 controler card that
would identify it as such, so I can hook the Duodisk drive up
to my IIe. The only other 5.25 controller card I have (and it is
working on a single platinum colored Apple 5.25 drive
successfully)that is clearly marked; "Apple 5.25 Drive Controller
655-0101-E". Is the first card I mentioned a Duodisk controller
card? If not, what should I be looking for in the way of
identifying marks or #s and/or is such a card still available
for purchase new, or maybe used? I have the original Duodisk
book that came with the drive, but it is of no help in naming
the correct card to use. Any light you can shed on this problem
would be of great assistance to me.

                            thanks, Jon C.
