This is entirely normal behavior.

You write the Appleshare server software for the IIGS, something
which Apple did not do. Then, you test and release your code.
I do know that people's memories are short, but macs couldn't share
their own HDs before System 7 without an expensive addon package. The
GS peaked at 6.0.1.
