Avi,
Did you buy your hard drive from LRO? They used to believe that only the
"larger" Quantum mechanisms (240 Meg and up) would require the use of an
external power supply and they used to include them in the price of the
purchase. I upgraded from a 52 Meg drive to a 170Meg drive, had problems
getting it stable, worked with John on the Tech Support line, and finally
received an external power supply to drive my drive.
I always found them reasonable to deal with and willing to help...of course,
it wasn't an 800 number I used, but regular long distance.
My experience dates back about 2 1/2 year now, too.
