Thanks, Dave!  That was the problem (SCC.manager).  Or, at least removing
that file solved the problem.

Interesting.  Before the big re-format, I had drivers for the LaserWriter
and Appletalk installed, but had AppleTalk shut off.  That way, I could
take my computer to work, re-slot the hard drive (it's a ROM 01 with the
hard drive in Slot 7), activate AppleTalk, and use the LaserWriter at
work.  The first time I tried it, I got a prompt asking for my user name,
but when I shut AppleTalk off and went back to using the ImageWriter, I
never got any boot errors.  That's what had me baffled.

Hmmm...Maybe I'll try re-installing the LaserWriter package and leaving it
turned off and see what happens...
